With the pervasiveness of cellular networks, and cellular phones with personalized audio capabilities, why do we need a one-to-many technology anymore? What are the unique values that broadcast radio brings? Can they be replaced? When and how?
This report looks at the future of audio-centric digital radio services worldwide, the survival of broadcast technologies in the presence of increasing cellular device and service penetration, the unique roles that broadcast offers and how that could be supplanted by cellular-based technologies. We look briefly at the competition between video-centric mobile TV deployments and more traditional digital radio services. Finally, we forecast automotive and non-automotive digital radio shipments on multiple standards in the United States and Europe.
